A registration of the first new gTLDs in the Root Zone on October 23, 2013 by ICANN was celebrated by many as a historic moment. At the same time, the first new registries have almost completed their preparations for introduction. However, the top levels introduced in the coming weeks will only be of limited interest for the German market, especially as they can only be registered in the first weeks of the sunrise phase by trademark owners registered in the TMCH.

One of the first newly introduced top levels is an IDN top level in Arabic special characters: .SHABAKA (which means .web/.internet - in Arabic characters).

Furthermore, at the end of November (today: 11/26/2013) the sunrise phase also starts for the following top levels:

    .BIKE
    .CLOTHING
    .GURU
    .HOLDINGS
    .PLUMBING
    .SINGLES
    .VENTURES

This phase ends on January 24, 2014, in which case a typically subsequent Landrush phase is completely cancelled. Thus, these seven new domain extensions are expected to be available for general registration from January 29, 2014.
