For fans of Cologne's way of life scattered around the world, for Cologne's women and men, Cologne's jesters and clubs, local companies and institutions, there is finally also a new top-level domain (gTLD) to strengthen their local identity and generate a global branding for their own city. With the two new domain extensions .koeln and the international sister .cologne, interested parties can demonstrate their direct affiliation to the cathedral city of Cologne and further promote the popularity of this region online.
Limited Registration Period (07/14/2014 - 08/12/2014)
During this period, the City of Cologne and its institutions, the public sector and non-profit associations related to Cologne, Cologne's so called Veedeln (neighborhoods), history and tradition can register their desired domains under .koeln or .cologne. The regional link of the domain name or the domain owner must be proven, but generic terms are excluded in this phase.
Landrush period (08/26/2014 - 09/05/2014)
The first phase begins in which no specific requirements have to be met and generic terms may also be registered for the first time. The Landrush fees are highest on the first day and are reduced during this 10-day phase on the last day. The usual principle "first come - first served" applies.
General availability (from 09/05/2014)
From this point on, interested parties can register their desired domains and do not have to meet any specific requirements. "first come - first served&quo" also applies.
