ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is the contractual partner for the respective registries. In order to officially administer and offer a top-level domain, a limited contract is concluded between ICANN and a registry operator.

Already in November 2001 the TLD.museum was launched and the current contract with the Registry MuseDoma (Museum Domain Management Association) runs until November 2, 2017. This is now about to be extended. As usual, a public statement can be made, for example by a competitor. After completing and reviewing this phase, experience has shown that the ICANN Board of Directors can be expected to extend the contract with MuseDoma.
